Kuala Lumpur Trip 2015: Telekom Museum Malaysia

In Malaysia, we are so familiar with Telekom Malaysia (TM) because we are using its services such as telephone, internet and many more. This time, I bring my family to Telekom Museum to take a look.

Telekom Museum has unique 2 storey building of Neo-Classical Greek architecture stands among Kuala Lumpur's skyscrapers at the junction of the Jalan Raja Chulan and Jalan Gereja. It was originally built in 1928 to house the Central Battery Manual Telephone Exchange and in 1985 was gazetted for conservation as part of the national heritage.

TM Point is at same building with Telekom Museum. TM Point is a place to pay for telephone bill or to subscribe to new TM services.

Went inside the entrance of Telekom Museum, a big telephone was caught my attention so I took a picture with the big telephone first. It was located at the front of Telekom Museum Café.

We need to climb a stairs to reach the museum. At the stairs, we had seen some collections such as a replica of Telekom Museum.

Gallery 1: Pre Historical

A glimpse of the early means of relying information and the various communication tools used in the country. The ranges are from the Neolithic paintings found in the Tambun cave, Batu Bersurat to the Ketuk-Ketuk.

Looking these collections reminds me of History class in Secondary School.

Gallery 2: The Beginning of Telecommunications

The pioneering efforts of the telecommunication industry are well captured in the telecommunication industry in this section of the museum that include the early telecommunication system in the form of the Morse Code began in Taiping in the 1870s and by 1878, network are already established in the various settlements and towns.

Gallery 3: Pre and Post-Independence Telecommunications

Visitors can also get to view the various types and shapes of telephone used in the country from the 1930s. Telecommunication system moved so rapidly from the facsimile machines to Atur 450 and the first cellular system the introduced in the country in 18985. Then, came the Smartfon which uses second generation cordless telephone technology.

This is the first telephone directory book.

I like this gallery as I can see the movement of the phone which is so interesting.

Before move to Gallery 4, I had seen a replica of KL Tower. Of course, I want to take picture with it. I seem very small when took the picture with KL Tower.

Gallery 4: Modern Era: HSBB Experience Centre

The worldwide evolution to experience the senses of sight, sound and motion. This will bring greater value through a richer digital lifestyle and online experience, enhanced competitiveness and world-class broadband infrastructure.

Museum usually displays the past but in Telekom Museum, you can see the things which we use such as laptop, TV and many more.

In Telekom Museum website had stated has Galley 5 which about air telecommunications but I did not visit it because I did not where is this gallery.

When we back, the staff had given all of us a wrist band as souvenir. We visit this museum on Friday (weekday) so it did not have lots of people. That time, we are the only customers so we can freely take pictures.
